Identifying learning progressions for early mathematical concepts

This will be a workshop course. The workshop is aimed at identifying/validating learning progressions for early mathematical concepts (those that appear
in primary school) largely through clinical interviews of students. Course participants will gain experience in planning
and carrying out clinical interviews. Participants will go through background literature, identify a concept or cluster of
closely related concepts, develop interview questions and schedules. They will then interview children, analyse the data
and write up a report. The course is also open to students with a non-mathematics background.

Participants may follow up the course with a project based on extended methodologies such as microgenetic studies
(Siegler) and teaching design experiments.
