Research Scholars admission test
The written test will be of three hours duration and will have three sections.
The first section will test the following:
• proficiency in English language,
• scientific literacy and technical comprehension, and
• quantitative reasoning skills.
All questions in this section will be of multiple choice type without negative marking.
The second section will test the long-term scientific knowledge and educational aptitude of the
candidate. A large number of questions from areas of Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics,
and general knowledge, including social sciences and education, will be asked. You are expected
to answer a reasonable fraction of the questions, though perhaps not all the questions asked in
this section. The paper will cover the syllabus up to the CBSE Std. XII level in the concerned
subjects and will test the candidate’s grasp of the basics of the subjects. All questions will be
of multiple choice type and will involve negative marking for wrong answers.
The third section will test the candidate’s ability for critical thinking on social issues and
cogent expression in English. This section will require short written answers.
The first two sections will be used as a screening test for evaluation of the third section.
Candidates who pass the written test will be called for an interview. Performance in the inter-
view will be decisive in the final selection.
