Themetic Structure

The deliberations of the Second Peoples Education Congress on ‘Science Education In India’ will be grouped into following categories:

 

  1. Plenaries

  2. Panels

  3. Special National Seminars/Symposia

  4. Public or Special Lectures

  5. Exhibition

  6. Task Force

 

Besides, a series of local, regional and national workshop will be held prior to and after the congress.

 

701 Plenaries


    There will be 8 plenaries, each of 2-hour duration during the Second Peoples Education Congress. Most of the plenaries will be held between 0900 and 1300 hours every day. There will be 3 main speakers and 2 discussants in each plenary. Tentative themes of the plenaries are as follows:

1.  Concept and Theory of Science Education: From Current to New.
2.  Status of Science Education in Indian Schools and Colleges: From Current to New.   
3.  Status of Science Education in Indian Universities: From Current to New.
4.  The New Parameters of Change in Science Education
5.  History and Philosophy of Science in Science Education
6.  New Pedagogy of Science Education
7.  New System of Science Communication
8.  Evolving New Democratic System of Education Reflecting Peoples’ Democratic Needs, Aspirations and Creative urges.

702 Panel Discussions


    It is proposed to constitute following panels on ‘Science Education In India’, each panel having a chairperson and convener. All the Panels shall hold their deliberations in parallel sessions in the afternoon. Each Panel shall have 15 to 25 members making written presentations. The themes of the Panels are as follows.

I.     Physical and Chemical Science Education
II.    Biological Science/Life Science Education
III.   Ecological and Environmental Science Education
IV.   Medical and Health Science Education
V.    Geo-Science and Planetary Science Education
VI.   Engineering Science Education
VII.  Agricultural Science Education
VIII. Social Science Education
IX.   Mathematical Science Education
X.    Computer Science and Information Technology Education
XI.   Scientific History in Science Education
XII.  History and Philosophy of Science in Science Education
XIII. Language of Science Education


703 Special National Seminars/Symposia


    It is proposed to hold national seminars/symposia on following themes during the Second Peoples Education Congress.

I.   National Curriculum Framework 2005 and Science Education in Schools
II.  Medical and Health Science Education in India
III. Common System of Democratic Education

704 Public/Special Lectures


    A few public or special lectures on ‘Science Education’ by creative and innovative scientists/thinkers/philosophers/social activists will be organized during the Second Peoples Education Congress. Each lecture will be of one hour duration and shall normally be held between 1730 and 1830 hours.

705 Exhibitions


    Peoples Council of Education (PCE) and Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), propose to organize an exhibition on Science Education in India during the forthcoming Second Peoples Education Congress in October 5-8, 2009 at Mumbai. The major object of the exhibition is to depict newer and better methods of science education in schools, colleges and universities. Each exhibit ought to reflect some degree of innovation and creativity. The exhibition can be in Hindi, Marathi, Gujarati and English. It can be in any form – posters, demonstration, modules, activities, films, audio-visuals etc. However, a brief write-up on the proposed exhibits is necessary. Such write-up ought to be sent to the Convener of the exhibition latest by July 15, 2009.

    Since the Peoples Education Congress seeks to discover newer and better democratic system of science education reflecting needs, aspirations, creativity and problems of people of India all exhibits are expected to contribute to the aforesaid goal.

    Interactive sessions with children and parents would be held during the exhibition. This may be kept in view while preparing exhibits.

    The dxhibition is open to all. Universities, colleges, schools, autonomous science education groups etc are most welcome to exhibit their creations on science education.

    All those who wish to participate in the exhibition are advised to send the following information to the convener, Ms. Meena Kharatmal latest by July 15, 2009:

706 Task Force


    A Task Force constituted by the Peoples Council of Education and Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education shall deliberate over the deliberations on ‘Science Education in India’ in order to search the new ideas, theories and methods of democratic system of science education.

    Based on its assessment the Task Force shall prepare its recommendations for new policy formulations and actions to be taken up by the Peoples Council of Education, the Ministry of Science & Technology, the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the University Grants Commission, NCERT and such other national and state educational bodies which are concerned with science education in India. The Task Force shall normally hold its sessions during post-dinner session and shall submit its report to the assembly of the delegates on the last day of the Congress between 1500 and 1600 hours.
