Peoples Education Congress
Peoples Council of Education organizes Peoples Education Congress with a singular motive of discovering, developing and disseminating a new democratic system of scientific education. Such a new democratic system of scientific education once created ought to be able to flower the creative potentialities of peoples of India and thereby enable them to enjoy higher quality of material, social and cultural life in harmony with Nature and Society. First Peoples Education Congress (PEC) was held from September 15 to 17, 2005 at University of Allahabad, Allahabad. ‘Science Communication’ was its focal theme. Papers and proceedings of the First Peoples Education Congress are under print and one volume containing the abstracts and keynote papers are already available.
The Peoples Council of Education has resolved to focus the deliberations of the Second Peoples Education Congress on ‘Science Education in India’. A note on ‘Science Education in India’, prepared by the Core Group and National Academic Advisory Committee is given on page 10.
The deliberations of the First Peoples Education Congress on ‘Science Communication’, revealed very poor quality of science communication to children and students in schools, colleges and universities resulting in lower order of creativity in science and very high order of anti-science or unscientific mental dispositions in the country. Even majority of the science teachers and research scientists exhibited strong anti-science dispositions, attitudes and behaviour, although unconsciously. Peoples Council of Education, therefore, resolved to focus the deliberations of the Second Peoples Education Congress on ‘Science Education in India’.
